Happy bank holiday monday! I am going to Milan tomorrow for a lil work trip and I was going to put this off til next week but then I was like y’know what I’ve got time, I’ll just keep it short, who is even bothered about me writing a semi-coherent paragraph long take on a song you’re more than likely not going to listen to anyway because it’s glorious weather outside?
All I’ve listened to recently is a playlist I curated called Taylor! At the Disco, inspired by Taylor Swift’s new song, and apart from that I really enjoyed the Jonas Brothers’ BBMA performance and congratulations to their biggest fan, Sophie Jonas née Turner aka the Lady of Winterfell for eloping with Joe Jonas and being married by an Elvis impersonator.
Anyway, here’s ten songs that came out on Friday that I liked!

Bastille – Joy
I swear Bastille already released this song and it’s called Good Grief, but I guess you can’t get done for plagiarising your own melody? Ten outta ten a nice cheery song I’ll probably spin a lot because it is bringing me Joy a la Marie Kondo.

FINNEAS – I Lost a Friend
A simple sad song about losing friendship (not someone dying, I checked) by Billie Eilish’s biggest collaborator, her brother Finneas, which makes this worth a listen fo sho.
SPIN

JP Cooper + Astrid S – Sing It With Me
A very pure, humble and sweet pop duet from two of pops purest, humblest and sweetest people.

Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait
Some good singing from a good boy.
SPIN

Nick Jonas – The Ugly Truth
For a B-level animated movie, this goes off way more than it should be allowed.
SPIN

Of Monsters and Men – Alligator
Not sure what this has to do with an alligator, or where the distinctive sound of the lead singer’s voice has gone, but a very strong instrumental backing that makes this a great songs for headphones.
SPIN

Patrick Martin – Stranger Nights
When the choir of voices come in to harmonise with him on the chorus I very nearly began to weep with pure euphoric joy.
SPIN

Robin Schulz – All This Love (feat. Harlœ)
There really is nothing like a powerfully performed dance song to make you want to simultaneously cry yourself senseless and run until your feet give out.
SPIN

Ruel – Painkiller
I feel like if Shawn Mendes was a bit more edgy, this is what he would do.
SPIN

Shawn Mendes – If I Can’t Have You
It’ upbeat, simple, and I’m going to listen it all summer and low key fantasise that it’s about me.
